Thank You, From A Police Wife

http://modernmelly.me

Anyone that reads my stories knows I love social media, Facebook particularly, and that I start my day by reading my Facebook wall like it’s the morning paper. In my defense: it is like the morning paper; there’s your world news, local news, entertainment, but then there’s so much more: updates on how friends and family are starting their day:

To which I either ‘like,’ comment, or keep scrolling. I also seems plenty of memes, from the funny:

To the inspirational:

And everything in between. Just this morning, I learned 25 ways to tie my scarf from a YouTube video. I remember about three, and will only use one, but whatever- I still learned something new. Yay me!

Anyhow, before I stray too far from my point (yes, I know, I already have) I want to tell you about the other thing I’ve noticed on my Facebook wall: Pro Police comments, pictures, videos, and stories. And not just on the police pages I subscribe to ( I follow numerous pro police pages, I’ll put a click-able list at the end). No, these are posts from “regular” people, acquaintances/ Facebook friends I never actually see in “real life” so to speak. It makes me smile, it tells me the tide is turning, we are winning, the silent majority is waking up and speaking up on behalf of our badge wearing spouses.

All I can say is: thank you. Thank you for not being afraid to defend the the men and women who so obviously (to us) deserve defending against unjust media and societal attacks- and literal attacks. To the little old lady who walked into a police station for the sole purpose of hugging an officer: thank you. To the beautiful black woman who took the hand of a white police officer and prayed with him: thank you. To the sweet boy who paid for the officers coffee: thank you. To the teen boy who stood in the rain guarding a police officer as she pumped gas: thank you. To the incredibly brave people who have risked their own safety to assist an officer under attack, oh my God: thank you.To every man woman and child who has taken a moment of their time to say thank you, offer a bottled water at a road job, snapped a photo of an officer doing a good deed (aka, the things they do every day), to anyone who has physically and verbally defended police from attack, thank you.

The simple truth, one that is common knowledge, is that a  police spouse, and parents of police officers, send  their heroes out the door to do their job with equal parts pride and worry (ever more so now). So knowing that someone like you is out there to offer a kindness, a hand, or a prayer… it is priceless to us. From the bottom of my heart- our hearts- thank you for showing that you care.

Here’s the list I promised, comprised of my personal favorites:

There are so many more, of course, and to any not on the list, it isn’t for lack of love! Feel free to comment with a link to your favorite Pro-Police page if you don’t see it here.
